Don Drysdale #53
This big right hander was an intimidating compliment to a rotation that already boasted Sandy Koufax — arguably the most dominant one-two punch of their time. In 1968, Don Drysdale pitched 6 consecutive shutouts which remains a major league record. He went on to pitch 58 consecutive scoreless innings, which was later broken by future Dodgers ace Orel Hershiser. Drysdale made life hard on opposing hitters because of his aggressive pitching style and his tendency to pitch inside.
Drysdale hit 154 batters in 14 seasons in the Major Leagues. He led the majors 4 times in hit batsmen. He pitched 18 games in which he hit multiple batters. This was because of his “two for one” philosophy.
"My own little rule was ‘two for one’. If you knocked down one of my teammates, I knocked down two on the other team." - Don Drysdale
